5 Things You Can Do Right Now To Boost Your Mood and Feel Better Overall [Mentor Moment]
Life is a rollercoaster ride with ups and downs, and not all days are filled with sunshine and happiness. In fact, there are days when we feel overwhelmed, anxious, or simply unhappy. These are the days when we wish we could stay in bed and hide from the world. But the truth is that these difficult days are just as important as the good ones. They are a reminder that we are human and that life is not always perfect.
In today’s episode of Mentor Moment, I’m going to share five ways that you can boost your mood and feel better overall. When you seek them out and you practice them and bring them into your life, you will feel less stress. You will increase your confidence, your resilience, and feel happier and better overall.
5 Things to Boost Your Mood and Feel Better Overall
One: Smile
The first thing is to smile. Do it right now! Research shows that each time you smile, you throw a little feel-good party in your brain. The act of smiling activates neural messaging that benefits your health and happiness.
Two: Seek ways to bring laughter into your life
I found this from an article from the Blue Zones site that laughter has the power to enhance physical and mental well-being. Laughter has three powers. The first is physical power, where laughter can improve your mood and make your physical and emotional response to stress less intense. The second is cognitive power, where you need to be able to see the lighter side of things. The third power is social power, where laughter creates bonds and it increases intimacy with others.
Three: Just be
We are constantly doing, doing, and doing. Being still, being mindful, and being intentional is the best way to improve your mood. Take five minutes every now and then to just breathe.
Four: Celebrate yourself!
We do not celebrate ourselves enough. We celebrate everybody else’s accomplishments but ours. We need to start bragging boldly. Celebrating ourselves and our accomplishments is a way of being and finding gratitude in our own lives, and that is directly tied to resilience and happiness and overall health and well-being. Celebrating yourself also increases your confidence. The more that you’re able to celebrate yourself, the more your confidence in yourself increases.
Five: Have fun
Having fun in life is more about doing huge adventures. You don’t always have time for the big moments of fun, right? It is better to work on embracing the little things. Try to cultivate a mindset that embraces play, pleasure, and laughter in everyday activities.
Bonus!
Six: Do for others
Doing acts of kindness for other people, whether it is taking someone’s shopping cart back for them in the supermarket, or maybe even letting somebody in front of you at the checkout line. Maybe it’s donating clothes or your time to an organization. Those are all great ways to feel good from the inside out. Doing for others takes you out of the worry, stress, and in your head.
Dare of the Week
✌️Your dare this week, should you choose to accept it, is:
- Choose one of these for every day of this week coming up. Maybe even go grab your bestie and embark on this fun adventure together.
- Afterward, you can actually talk about how it felt.
- Ask yourself, Which one really did reduce your stress and make you feel better overall?
